After several successful SAP implementations as a permanent employee, I decided to take the massive step of going freelance. I was initially worried that this would, in theory, mean that I was giving up job security for the first time in my working life.
Ironically, the freedom of self employment and lack of office politics has, if anything, enabled me to enjoy continuity of work well beyond what I had expected. After 18 years of freelancing, I am now my own longest serving employer.
Admittedly, I have been very fortunate with the timing of my career change and some lucrative opportunities, but good contacts and advice have always proved important. As well as an understanding bank, reliable agents and a supportive family, it is also vital to have good financial and tax advice.
Because my original contracts were offshore, I started my contracting career as part of an umbrella company. However when I returned to the UK, it became clear that I needed an alternative solution. I therefore decided to contact ClearSky.
They offered a variety of packages that evolved with the legislation and this resulted in the formation of my first Limited company in 2005/06. Since joining, I have had the benefit of advice from several ClearSky teams who have all made me feel that they are genuinely interested in my business.
I have referred several other businesses to ClearSky and would happily continue to do so.
