With an ever increasing need to access personal and business information on the move, the next generation of consumer smartphones have allowed many business professionals alike, to jump on the band wagon to improve the way in which they do business, communicate with each other and interact and keep in the know with personal and business information.

The pioneering Apple iPhone and more specifically the ‘apps’ (applications) which revolutionise the device has changed the face of the mobile market for good, but do smartphones like this appeal to contractors and do they use them?

Even my 11 year old daughter is proficient at acquiring iPhone applications (at my expense) and using then.  A  number of these such as task planners, mind maps etc are useful business applications as well as a bit of fun.

With the launch of the iPad in March this year, Apple will again redesign the way in which we work and play.  But are these advances just gimmicks or do they actually help the contractor?

Certainly the apps that assist you in viewing your business bank account online are a god send.  You can check your cash position anytime. anywhere.

Telephone banking back started this revolution, online banking made it readily accessible but being able to use a smart phone to view your details has truly made this simple.  But apart from that, I struggle to think or any one application that has changed the way in which I run my business.  Yet despite this we see the introduction of new applications on a weekly basis.

The ease of being able to create and bring these applications to a mass audience means that an idea which would have costs thousands of pounds to develop and launch can now be introduced for a few thousand pounds (if you include the time costs).

Does the world need any more applications?

Well ClearSkyis asking that very question.  As your accountant, would it be advantageous to give you access to any information or provide information to us through your SmartPhone?

Please drop your comments below, including the device you use and how we could possibly help you get the most from our services on your SmartPhone?

We’ll then look into creating a really useful application for you rather than just a headline grabbing gimmick!
